The Special Children’s Forum was established in 2010 for the purpose of bringing organisations, institutions and like-minded individuals together, to fight for the rights of children with disabilities and their families. The Forum meets twice a year to discuss topics related to disability, as well as challenges and successes faced, to share information and encourage each other, as we all move forward towards a common goal of reduced stigma and discrimination, better quality services for children with disabilities, changes in policies and a more inclusive community and society.
The Forum has had a number of successes to date.
The Forum participated in the formulation of the Inclusive Education Policy of Uganda.
The Forum co-authored a Disability Resource Guide to ease referrals and encourage effective service delivery for children with disabilities.
The Forum has successfully organized 9 Annual Awareness Days, where hundreds of stakeholders, including children with disabilities, come together to raise awareness and advocate on issues concerning children with disabilities.
The Forum actively brings together members to create a bigger, more unified voice to amplify issues concerning children with disabilities in different spaces, such as, parliament, government ministries and leaderships.
The Forum members have had access to training and resources to strengthen their organisations and enable them to deliver better quality services to children with disabilities.
